 Maasai Mara, Kenya

Sentrim Mara

The Maasai Mara is a large game reserve in South-West Kenya. Named for the Maasai people and the Mara River which divides it, it is famous for its exceptional population of game. The annual migration of Zebra and Wildebeest from the Serengeti National Reserve in Tanzania to the Maasai Mara in Kenya is one of the Natural Wonders of the World and takes place between July and October, a migration so immense it is called the Great Migration. Its twenty or more lion prides are also an attraction not to be missed.

Nested in a valley between two hills in the most exciting African wilderness right on the North Eastern edge of the famous Masai Mara game reserve. The distance is about 275 Kms (05 hrs) from Nairobi. The Keekorok airstrip, serviced by daily scheduled flights in the mornings from Nairobi, Nanyuki, Samburu and afternoons from Nairobi.

Masai Mara is around 6,000 ft. elevation. Although only a few hundred miles south of the equator, the temperature is generally milder (and damper) than similar regions. December and January are the warmest months, and June and July are the coldest. Maximum temperatures average 30C/85F, and temperatures may reach as low as 13C/55F in the evenings during the cooler months. Masai Mara’s wettest months are April – May and November. During these rainy seasons roads may get very muddy and are nearly impassable at times. Ideal times to visit are between July and October, during dry season, in order to avoid heavy showers.
